And while others at work may have thought him ‘odd’ I found him to be refreshingly honest and open and I liked him immediately. We talked a lot about the most interesting things. I don’t think we ever had a mundane conversation. I knew him as a kind, generous, loving, gentle, honest, sincere, trustworthy and trusting man with an enormously wicked (in a good way) sense of humor. I would wear purple just to see the joy and pleasure in his eyes and in his reactions; he knew it was for him. He inspired and encouraged me to try things that were new and different and maybe difficult for me, but his confidence in me was enough to spur me on. And he was right; I could do it. Whether it was facing my fear of heights (so we went skydiving) or questioning if I had the ability to build things (I apparently did), his encouragement went a long way to my becoming who I am today. It was a pleasure to call him my friend. Richard, you never were and never will be far from my thoughts.
